Hotplate Analgesia Meter

For testing heat-induced pain in rats & mice

The SDI Hotplate Analgesia Meter performs rapid, precise screening of narcotic type analgesic drugs (morphine, codeine, etc.) in test subjects. The hotplate method evaluates the reaction time of mice (or rats) dropped onto a heated surface and confronted with a heat stimulus applied to their plantar surface. When a central analgesic is administered to the animals, their reaction time is markedly increased.

A foot switch controls the start/stop for the test. The operator can read the time from the display or with the SeDaCom software; trial number, plate temperature and reaction time are sent to the PC.
